The “One Day Dictator” Ruse

Spread the love

I can’t imagine having my sister or brother taken from our family when we were young, but it’s happening today.

I can’t even begin to imagine what will happen in the next few months if the last few have been more horrific than anyone could have believed possible. Is this what voters wanted? Are the Red Hats happy now that innocent people are being picked up and deported without any pretense of following the rule of law? We’re getting a taste of what an authoritarian government looks like and it’s not pretty. The courts are bending to the will of the Dictator as are cable channels, prestigious attorneys and law firms, various institutions of learning, commentators, and lowly community columnists. Thankfully Harvard did not allow T to become its president. Perhaps other Ivy League universities will follow suit. Keep this poem by Pastor Martin Niemoller in mind and ask yourself what you will do if one day ‘they’come for you.

FIRST THEY CAME
First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me.
