Purple Light

Spread the love

Purple light filters
through sharp barbed wire fences
holding two spotted ponies captive to their own loneliness and the whims of man.
Freedom descends at twilight,
steps from the sky,
reaches a welcoming hand through the fence,
beckons them to join her.

Ponies await freedom’s purple light

Their flight is fast.
Bucking the day’s heat back to the soil,
they release energy hidden from their master.
Their shaggy heads reach upward.
Their wide eyes catch the setting sun’s last rays.
Their hooves skim the pond’s surface.
Encouraged, they fly upwards, higher, higher,
fly to where tomorrow waits to become today.
Their breath is pure jade.
It encompasses their bodies.
No turning back now.
Soft neighs echo through the misty air.
Spirits answer them.
Joined in freedom’s perpetual dance,
the old, the lame,
twilight’s purple light frees them all.

  1. And what a beautiful way to come back!!! Thank you for the joy of your words.

  2. Love love this!!! (But I’m not ready for the joy of twilight’s purple light….I.want to see red sunsets and morning sunrises for a long time …but when God calls me so He can turn me back into the dust from which I was created, and makes another child of the stars…I will be ready….)
